The Knights continued their weekend tour through Georgia with a stop at Truett-McConnell College for a tri-match with the Bears and the Eagles of Toccoa Falls College. When KCU had finished play for the day, they had earned a split. Defeating the TFC Eagles 3-2 and dropping a 3-0 decision to the home team.
The day’s first match pitted the two Appalachian Athletic College members as KCU took on Truett-McConnell. The score reads a straight set loss but the actual score (23-25, 11-25, 22-25) was much closer than a sweep would indicate.
Two Knights reached double figure kills … Kiahna Holmen had 15 along with 12 digs and a solo block while her front row mate, Kristin Upshaw-Mendoza, added 14 kills and hit .345 for the match. Avery Crum and Arin Owens chipped in four kills each. Defensively, Hannah Cron led the team with 15 digs and Crum just missed double digits with nine.
Next up were the TFC Eagles and another tightly challenged match. The Knights placed three hitters in double figure kills with two getting double-doubles along the way. Crum (13 kills/19 digs/2 solo blocks) and Holmen (23 kills/27 digs/1 solo & 1 assisted block) reached that goal with it being Holmen’s second time on the day, she also was credited with four aces. Also reaching double digits in kills was Upshaw-Mendoza with 12 followed closely by Owens with nine. Darby Flickinger collected 89 total assists on Saturday with 34 against TMC and 55 in the Toccoa Falls match. Cron, once again, reached the double figure plateau in digs with 17.
