Coming off possibly the most successful season in program history, the Kentucky Christian University men's soccer team comes into the 2019 season with tremendous optimism.
With a 13-6-2 record for the 2018 campaign and making it to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) II National Championship game, this squad appears ready to make the jump to being a fully functioning NAIA member. The entire athletic department has joined the Appalachian Athletic Conference and the Knights will face the daunting task of gaining a competitive foothold with their new conference members. KCU Head Coach Jeremy Miller said, "As we look towards the 2019 season, we are looking forward to joining the AAC conference in the NAIA. This will be a big step for us and we're looking forward to the challenges of playing at the next level. Over the past few years, we've played a lot of NAIA schools and have competed well again them but this season expectations are different. In the past, it was expected to go undefeated in our region and perform well in the NCCAA II national tournament, this year expectations have to be altered somewhat. However, our determination and goals will not change."
We graduated a lot of great guys last spring. We have a small group of guys returning in a big freshman class coming in. We are excited for the freshman to join us small but strong returning class. Every year the guys perform better than expected and I expect the same thing this year from this group of young men
After losing four key contributors to graduation, Coach Miller will have lost significant experience but also has a good core of upper-class leadership and experience returning. "We graduated a lot of great guys last spring. We have a small group of guys returning and a big freshman class coming in. We are excited for the freshman to join this small, but strong returning class," commented Miller, "Every year the guys perform better than advertised and I expect the same thing this year.”
