The Raiders Soccer team took down Spring Valley, WV on Thursday, 1-0.

Tyler Adkins scored the solo goal of the game and Cody Buck got the shut out at Keeper. Buck stood up to the challenge, stopping a penalty kick in the last 10 minutes of the game.

“They were a pretty good team,” Coach Ben Fritz said. “They are physical and a big team. Spring Valley is very well coached.”

With two very physical teams on the field, the competition was quickly heated.

“Our composure really stood out,” Fritz said. “We had a lot of opportunity to lose our composure and get into a slug-fest with them, but our players really kept their heads, stayed calm and played to the best of their ability.”

The Raiders will play host to Rose Hill Christian at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The Ashland area school is 0-3-1 on their season.

“I hope the boys come out ready to play,” Fritz said. “I think we can play with anybody. If we aren’t ready to play we will be in a dogfight no matter what team we are facing.”
