East Volleyball fell to West last Tuesday, 2-0. The Lady Raiders have yet to win a game this season, but not for lack of effort.

“I have a very young team,” Coach Cathy Harris said. “We lost a lot of girls last year, and this season we’ve had a lot of injuries and girls being sick.”

East has just one senior this season and is filling out the rest of the squad with underclassmen and a few seventh grade players.

“These girls are very good athletes, but it is hard for younger ones to compete against older ones with more experience,” Harris said. “It is a rebuilding year.”

The Lady Raiders played host to Greenup Tuesday night (after press time).

“It’s hard to say what to expect,” Harris said in a pre-game interview. “My senior player is going to be out tonight due to illness, so I will be starting freshmen, one sophomore and seventh graders. We have had three days of really good practice, so we are trying to be really positive and upbeat.”

But as East faces a losing season, it is hard to stay positive. The Lady Raiders won more than 20 games in each of their last two seasons, but this season has been difficult.

“They have a lot of potential and hopefully by district time we will have overcome our slump,” Harris said. “We are still learning to play the game.”

East heads to Russell on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match up and will face Lewis County next Tuesday.
