From the start of the game, the East Carter girls soccer team was on a mission.
The Lady Raiders scored one goal right after another as they defeated Elliott County 10-0 in the first round of the 62nd District Tournament at Greenup County. East Carter will be playing for its third straight District Championship.
“It feels great to back in the title game,” coach Ryan Knipp said. “It’s one of our goals every year to get in the district championship. You always want to be that district championship winner because it could give your team a first round by the regional tournament.”
Megan Stickler, Alexa Sturgill and Macy Dyer each scored two goals while Rebecca Adams, Amber Hall, Ashleigh and Emilee McDowell each scored one goal. Stickler also had two assists while the McDowells, Kaylee Limings and Taylor Burnett each had one assist. East Carter also took at least 30 shot on goal in the first half
“We’re finishing a little better than we were at the beginning of the year,” Knipp said. “It’s a good opportunity for our team to get a lot of playing time and it helps with our depth.”
East Carter (15-3-1) had a game plan to play very fast and aggressive against the Lady Lions (0-11).
“That’s what we talk about every single day,’ Knipp said. “We need to hit them first and set the tone and that’s what we did.”
Now the Lady Raiders will play the winner of the West Carter vs. Greenup County game that was played on Tuesday night after press time. The Championship is slated to begin Wednesday at 8 p.m.
