The Lady Comets soccer team went 2-2 last week.

On Tuesday, West played host to Mason County for a 3-0 win. The Lady Comets were able to hold onto the ball through most of the game.

“I think we played very well,” Coach Lauren Melzer said. “Their defenders played back a lot, which opened up the middle for our forwards to get in and score.”

Charlene Colegrove was in goal for the win.

On Thursday, West traveled to East Carter and suffered a 5-1 loss.

The Lady Raiders grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first half, but West battled through.

“We just let down when they scored on us the third time,” Melzer said. “We were excited to score, because it was only the third time East has been scored on this season.”

Amber Buckley had the goal for West.  Colegrove had a great game in goal, stopping dozens of shots on goal.

West lost to Boyd County at home Saturday, 2-1.

With a little over half of the game complete, the game was called due to weather.

“We didn’t play our best but it was a good game,” Melzer said. “We just wish we could have finished it out.”

Tori Knipp scored on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box.

The Lady Comets beat St. Patrick at home on Monday night, 2-1.

“It was a good game but we didn’t play very well,” Melzer said. “Charlene saved us big time.”

Colegrove was nearly unstoppable and the two teams were tied 1-1 for most of the game. Amber Buckley had one goal early and kicked in her second with just two minutes left in play.

West traveled to Lawrence County Tuesday (after press time). Lawrence is 0-7 on the season and fell to West (3-1) Aug. 24. East will host Greenup County Saturday at 11 a.m.
