Paige Tackett goes up for two during Saturday’s match up with South Point.

The Lady Comets faced off with South Point in Saturday’s exhibition game, falling 85-38.

“Our defensive execution was nonexistent,” Coach Tex English said. “They were a good team, but we are embarrassed because we just didn’t compete.”

West went 9-for-33 in the field and 1-for-13 outside the perimeter. The 30-team errors didn’t help morale, and it was clear that the Lady Comets were not prepared.

“Hopefully the girls won’t put their heads down,” English said. “We will be back in the gym this week. We can work harder.”

Freshman Paige Tackett led West in scoring with nine points. Brittany Tackett put up eight while Miranda Holbrook, Janice Shepherd and Shelby Fultz had five each. Whitley Adkins sank three from the line and Brooke Callihan hit one from the field. Kristin Perry had one from the charity stripe.

The Lady Comets were out-rebounded by the Pointers, 45-40. Perry led West defensively by pulling down 10 and blocking four.

West will head to East Carter for the Heart of the Parks on Saturday where they will face off with Lawrence County.

“We don’t know what to expect from Lawrence County,” English said. “We are going to have some tough practices and change some things up a bit. We need to work on our defense and get better.”

Tip off for Saturday’s game is set for 1:30 p.m. at ECHS.
