Johnson University-TN was Saturday’s opponent for the final day of the Kentucky Christian University “Super 8” Classic. The Lady Knights and Royals battled throughout a very tightly contested game with KCU pulling out a 67-63 victory.
To illustrate the close nature of the contest, the game was tied 11 times and saw 19 lead changes … neither team had a lead greater than six points. The Lady Knights surpassed the .500 (.551) shooting mark for only the third time this season and only follows the .580 shooting percentage posted in a loss to IU Southeast on Nov. 13. KCU hit on 27-49 shots and was credited with 23 assists as a team.
Kentucky Christian was led in scoring by Jordan Holt’s 19 points on 8-16 shooting from the field and one 3-point make. She also dished out five assists and tied for the team lead in that category with Sydney Foster.
Foster recorded her third double-double of the season by scoring 14 points (6-9 FGs) and pulling down 12 rebounds. Also reaching double figures was Shelby Slone (15 points) who was a perfect 6-6 from the floor and also had five rebounds to go with four assists. Abby Benson just missed reaching double digits as she was 3-4 from behind the arc for nine points.
The Lady Knights return to the hardwood Wednesday as they travel to Richmond to play the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky University. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
