West Carter exacts revenge on rivals at East.
After Monday night’s 9-3 loss, the Comets rebounded by defeating the Raiders, 12-0, in five innings.
Trevor Callahan picked up his first shut out of the season. He pitched a complete game giving up no runs on three hits, struck out 11 and walked one.
Callahan also scored the first run after getting on base with a single in the bottom of the first inning. Callahan was one for three at the plate.
The Comets’ clean up, Trace Tackett, batted him in with a two-run homer over centerfield. Tackett has hit two home runs, his first was against Menifee County on April 9. Tackett was two-for-four at the plate with single in the Comet’s big third inning.
The Comets scored five runs in the third inning. Callahan reached first on an error but was tagged out advancing to home during Dominic Hinton’s at bat. Tackett scored the first run on an error made by East Carter’s Lucas Young.
The Comets loaded the bases with Hinton on third, Hunter Jessie on second and Caleb Lambert on first. Hinton and Jessie scored when Austin Burge singled to right field.
Sam Jones followed with a single to left field allowing Lambert to score and Burge scored on Ethan Adkins fly ball to centerfield.
A rough inning on the mound and a couple of errors cost the Raiders another five runs in the fourth inning.
The Comets once again loaded the bases. Hinton and Lambert drew walks and Jessie singled to centerfield.
Hinton scored when Burge was hit with a pitch. Ben Wilburn drew a third walk and Callahan was hit with a pitch. Jessie scored during Wilburn’s at bat. Lambert, Burge and Wilburn scored on Adkins fly ball to right field. Adkins reached first on error.
The Comets scored 12 runs on seven hits. Tackett and Jessie both had two hits. The remaining hits were made by Burge, Callahan and Jones.
East Carter’s only hits were made by Young, Ethan Tiller and Donovan Damron.
Tuesday night’s game left the Comets 1-1 in district play while picking up their first loss. After defeating Elliott County, 15-0, last Thursday night, the Raiders are now 3-1 in the district.
East plays their last district games next Monday and Tuesday. They take on the Cougars at 6 p.m. April 29 at home before traveling to Morgan County for their second game at 6 p.m. April 30.
West Carter played Morgan County Monday and Tuesday. They will be playing their last district games Monday, April 29, and Tuesday April 30, against Elliott County. The will take on the Lions Monday night at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to Sandy Hook for a 6 p.m. start Tuesday night.
