Knights baseball took to the diamond this afternoon against the Bears of the University of Pikeville for the first of a two-game, 9-inning weekend series.
The game was tied at the end of seven but UPike scored nine error-assisted runs over the final three innings to take the 12-3 victory.
KCU pitching kept the game tight and two timely double plays gave the Knights an opportunity to take the first game of the weekend homestand but eight fielding errors doomed any chance for the win. Offensively, Kentucky Christian took advantage of UPike miscues in the form of errors (2) and hit batsmen (1) to carve out three runs against a pitching staff the allowed only two hits.
Kirk Jennings and Logan Wade collected those two hits while Trey Mills, Jantzen Smith, Cody Thompson, and Chrystian Westfall (3) all added walks that greatly aided the much-needed scoring opportunities. Elyjah Baker was saddled with the loss in a game that took 2:50 to complete.
