What a wonderful Christmas at the Depot event this past Saturday! Another successful, fun, and joyful event hosted by the Olive Hill Area Chamber of Commerce, with the help of our local community partners and friends.
The Mayor, City Council, and City employees deserve huge thanks for all of the hard work done in the winter weather leading up to Saturday.
Lights were bought and hung on the Depot and tree by the workers, to create an atmosphere of joy and happiness this Christmas season.
The Olive Hill Trail Town group arranged for a roaring fire to bring a little warmth to those wanting to be outside, and the Olive Hill Historical Society provided hot cocoa and cookies on the inside for everyone to enjoy.
In between being led in seasonal songs by our favorite, Sasha Colette Hart, a Christmas story was read by Carter County Library Director, Nellie Middleton. Although it made for a slow trek home later, the falling snow blanketing the ground made for a terrific seasonal backdrop for the most anticipated holiday of the year.
The highlight of the evening though, was of course when The Olive Hill Fire Department, in a lighted up Christmas firetruck, delivered Santa, Mrs. Claus and Elf to the Depot to light the Christmas tree, and greet all of the boys and girls in attendance! While he collected names and lists of toys from the kids there, treat bags were handed out complete with coloring books donated by Grayson RECC, candy canes from our very own Priscilla Hicks, and a treat certificate from Olive Hill Dairy Queen!
At the end of the night, I think everyone went home happy, and I hope, safe, thankful for an amazing group of volunteers and community minded individuals that help to create beautiful memories, terrific experiences, and a true Holiday moment that our families will be talking about in years to come.
