The editor:

Readers of this newspaper are likely readers of magazines. Readers are readers.

Social media and the internet generally have greatly reduced subscriptions, to the point advertisers are leaving magazines for other media.

Since advertising rates are based on circulation, many magazines have drastically reduced subscription prices to a small fraction of the price on the cover.

As another inducement to customers the publishers will offer a greatly reduced rate or even free subscriptions to a relative or friend in hopes a year later they will become a paid subscriber.

In talking with the Carter County Public Library staff I have learned either Grayson or Olive Hill branches would be delighted to receive these 'gift' subscriptions and make them available to the public. Please give it a thought.
