It's a big week for Carter County with the launch of the Carter County fair.

The fair offers a variety of activities for everyone. These festivities started Sunday at Prichard Elementary School with the Miss Carter County Fair Beauty Pageant and the events will unfold rapid fire all the way through this Saturday.

Of course the horticulture and agriculture displays are at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. Tuesday is Military and Senior night, with those 55 and older or those with a valid military ID admitted for $2. There are plenty of highlights to go around throughout the week -- a petting zoo, Tri-State MX Motocross, a Papa John's Pizza-sponsored pizza eating contest. There are plenty of carnival rides, a talent show, go-cart racing, quad and UTV races, talent show winners, a best dressed cowboy and cowgirl contests, sponsored by James Family

Outfitters.

There will even be a Carter County Fairi- o-ke karaoke event and the very popular demolition derby sponsored by Top Dog Promotions at 8 p.m.

Our favorite part of all county fairs are the agricultural and 4-H competitions.

These serve as great opportunities for our youth to enjoy the hard work and rewards of agriculture and raising livestock.

We wanted to say thank you today to all those who work to make the county fair a reality. We recognize all the hard work involved, and that it isn't easy to say the least. Those who make the fair possible carry out a true public service.

We encourage everyone to come out and support the fair this week.
