Two deaths related to this past week’s ice storm were reported in Carter County. They both occurred on I64.

Paul Richard Thompson, 40, of Olive Hill, died Thursday morning, Jan. 29, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was reported to have been traveling eastbound on I64 near Grayson when his car left the highway, went into the median and flipped.

A male juvenile passenger was pronounced dead Friday, Jan. 30, after he was ejected from the maroon1999 Ford F-150 he and his family were traveling in.

According to Kentucky State Police, Emily Westerman, 32, of Charleston was driving the truck traveling westbound on I64.

Due to hazardous road conditions, she lost control of the vehicle and entered the median.

Emily Westerman, Paul Westerman, 46, a four-year-old male and a one-year-old female were all transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters’ Medical Center in Ashland. Due to the extent of injuries, Emily, Paul and the girl were then transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W. Va. The boy was pronounced dead by the Boyd County coroner.

Seatbelts were in use in this single-vehicle crash.
