Global Data Corporation officials were in Olive Hill beginning Monday for meetings with local utilities representatives, county and state officials, educational representatives; as well as engineering, architectural and surveyor professionals.

During the meeting with county officials, Liam Russell, president of Global Data, said the new facility ‘Stone Mountain’, to be located in the former Mushroom Mines at Lawton in western Carter County, would be completed in phases.

The company named ‘Stone Mountain Ultra-Secure Tier-4 Date Center Mega-Complex’ will be a state-of-the-art and world’s most secure underground database for many Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.

“Stone Mountain will not only offer data storage backup but will become the primary data center for many companies,” Russell told county officials in a meeting Monday.

Dates for completion were not given. Contracts are in the works but have not been signed with local utilities companies as to when the utilities could be ready for operation. Dates for the beginning of construction will be announced soon.
