Russell and East Carter will play in the semifinals of the Girls 16th Region Tournament after winning their opening games.
The eighth ranked Lady Raiders hit seven of their eight three-point baskets in the first half en route to a 55-33 victory over Rowan County.
East Carter (30-2) got 15 points from freshman Kristin Mayo, 12 points out of Bryana Greenhill and 11 points out of Haley Hall as part of a 46 percent shooting night from the field.
Rowan County (13-15) shot 33 percent from the floor while turning the ball over 17 times against the Lady Raider pressure. Of the 17 miscues, East forced 14 steals.
Faith Conn, playing her final game in a Rowan County uniform scored 11 points and had two steals.
The win gives coach Hager Easterling his 400th career victory.
In game one, the Lady Devils shot 50 percent from the field, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc in the first half to knock of 64th District Champion Boyd County 65-56.
The Lady Devils (21-11) led by as many 21 points in the second half and never looked back to advance to their second straight semifinal. Shelby Huddleston led Russell with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Boyd County (23-9), who had won 13 out of their last 15 games, shot 32. 8 percent (19-of-58) and turned the ball over 15 times. Taylor Wheeler’s 28 points and 12 rebounds led the Lady Lions.
East Carter and Russell will meet Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Ellis T. Johnson Arena at Morehead State University. The Lady Raiders swept the Lady Devils in their two matchups this season, a 63-22 win on Dec. 28 and a 55-39 win back on Jan. 24.
