Two Morehead residents died Sunday morning after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a vehicle along KY 955 in Carter County.

Kentucky State Police in Ashland reported Clifton R. “Bub” Jent, 27, was operating a 2004 Yamaha about 10 a.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a 1994 Oldsmobile, driven by Steven Brooks, no age or address given.

Both Jent and his passenger, 24-year-old Miranda Sue “Doc” Johnson was thrown from the motorcycle during the collision.

Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt said he and several emergency officials responded to the scene. “Mr. Jent was brought DOA (dead on arrival) to St. Claire Regional Medical Center, and I pronounced him dead,” Northcutt commented Monday. “The young lady was taken by PHI Helicopter (Morehead) to Cabell Huntington Hospital where she also later died.”

The two were long time companions and were engaged. Johnson graduated Rowan County Senior High School where she participated in cheerleading. She also was a licensed daycare director.

Jent also graduated Rowan County Senior High School as was employed with Caskey Construction.

The joint funeral service will be conducted Thursday at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Brooks and his three passengers were not injured during the collision. Police did not release the names of the passengers but said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Brad Wiley.

Responding to the scene were Morehead, Elliottville and Carter County Fire Departments, Carter County EMS, Rowan County Sheriff’s Department and PHI Helicopter.
