West soccer crushes Fleming

BY Denver Brown, Executive Editor

Sept. 5, 2007 FLEMINGSBURG -- Katie Thompson drilled three goals past the Fleming County keeper and a total of four Lady Comets scored as West Carter collected its first black-and-white ball victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph in Flemingsburg. The win last Wednesday puts the Comets at 1-5-1 overall.

“We really came together as a team in this one,” Coach Baker told The Journal-Times. “And as a result we picked up our first win of the season.”

Thomas scored her first goal of the night at 6:35 in the first half off a Beth Elliott assist. Libby Hoover and Elliott each went in unassisted; then Elliott passed off to Billie Jackson for the 4-0 lead. Thompson added two solo scores in the second half.

“We now have (foreign exchange student from Germany) Lene Burke playing and that should help us out in the midfield.”

Members of the West Carter soccer team include; Libby Hoover, Amber Jackson, Katie Thompson, Beth Elliott, Allaynah Ratliff, Kim Frint, Billie Jackson, Kaarlie Wellman, Kayla Perkins, Meghan Henderson, Brianna Skaggs, Jerrah Stark, Keisha Hedge, Shanna Mynhier, Emily Hammonds, Tori Knipp, Paige Puckett, Charlene Colegrove, Lene Burke.

The Comet soccer squad battles at Rowan County, tonight (Wednesday) and hosts rival East Carter on Thursday. Look for updates in next week’s sports section.
