West soccer crushes Fleming

Sept. 5, 2007 — FLEMINGSBURG -- Katie Thompson drilled three goals past the Fleming County keeper and a total of four Lady Comets scored as West Carter collected its first black-and-white ball victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph in Flemingsburg. The win last Wednesday puts the Comets at 1-5-1 overall.

“We really came together as a team in this one,” Coach Baker told The Journal-Times. “And as a result we picked up our first win of the season.”

Thomas scored her first goal of the night at 6:35 in the first half off a Beth Elliott assist. Libby Hoover and Elliott each went in unassisted; then Elliott passed off to Billie Jackson for the 4-0 lead. Thompson added two solo scores in the second half.

“We now have (foreign exchange student from Germany) Lene Burke playing and that should help us out in the midfield.”
