OLIVE HILL - After a slow start, West Carter packed 24 points into the second quarter then went on to win for the first time this season. The Comets collected 325 yards of total offense in their 46-12 district win over visiting Lewis County, last Friday night.
“We just really picked up the intensity,” West’s Chris Barker said. “This was a game we had to win and we got it.”
Ace Puckett scored a pair of touchdowns for head coach Kevin Brown’s club, including a 77-yard interception return for six. Zack Thompson also hit the endzone twice in the win. Trevor Rayburn and Travis Cundiff added touchdown trips for West Carter. Stephen Carroll caught a pair of conversion passes from Puckett and he rushed for a third. Carroll carried the ball 15 times for a game-best 73 yards.
“We cut down on our turnovers and we won,” Carroll told The Journal-Times. “We can play with any team when we hold onto the football.”
Sean Zornes had 74 yards to lead Lewis County.
