The VolleyKnights were on the road at Indiana University East for the Red Wolves Invitational. KCU started play with a close loss to the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
The score showed a 1-3 (22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25) defeat but the individual set scores indicate a much closer contest.
For the match, KCU was offensively led by Ally Whitall and Kiahna Holmen as both reached double figures in kills with 15 and 13, respectively. Avery Crum, Darby Flickinger and Samantha Vallance each added seven kills for the offense. Flickinger also recorded 33 assists for her afternoon's work. Defensively, Crum chalked up 12 digs and was joined by Rachel Irby's 11 in the double-digit club. As a team, the VolleyKnights produced 3 solo and 10 assisted blocks.
Game 2 saw KCU play IU Kokomo. IUK entered the match with a 6-1 record and undefeated in the tournament. The VolleyKnights lost 0-3 (9-25, 12-25, 12-25) and had very little success mounting any type of offense as they only produced 18 kills, all being assisted. The team was led offensively by Holmen with 10 kills and Ce'Loris Arrington's 10 assists. On the defensive side, three players collected six digs: Arrington, Crum and Irby.
Kentucky Christian returns to the court tomorrow afternoon as the play Marian University at 12:30PM and IU East at 4:30PM.
