In what turned out to be a weather shortened series with the UC Patriots (31-4), KCU played host to the Top-25 team from Williamsburg.
Game 1: With five innings completed in the game, the Knights were down 2-6 but in position to make a run at the Patriots. Unfortunately, UC's bats came alive as they posted 13 runs over the next three innings.
KCU pushed three runs across the plate with eight hits as Trey Mills led the offense as he went 2-3 scoring one run and driving in another. Dane Wilson was 2-4 with an RBI and Trey Cline scored a run going 1-4 from the plate. Defensively, the Knights turned a season high three double-plays during the game but nothing could hold back the Patriots as they had 18 hits in the 19-3 win.
Game 2: UC pitcher Nicholas Purpera pitched an outstanding one-hitter for 5 1/3 innings in this seven inning game and combined with Lucas Jones to hold the Knights offense to one run. Even though KCU remained in contact with the Patriots through four innings, being down 1-6, a depleted pitching staff couldn't restrain the UC offense as they plated five more runs to take the 11-1 victory. Brandon Clarkwas 1-2 with an RBI as he drove in Blake Conley for the Knight's lone run.
The Knights returned to action on Tuesday as they played host to the Buffaloes of Milligan College for a mid-week doubleheader.
