Delbert Cecil Crank

11/19/13 — Delbert Cecil Crank, 70, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 18, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Carter County, a son of the late Cecil and Cora Lee Rogers Crank.

Delbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a die hard UK Basketball fan and enjoyed sharing family celebrations and attending Bluegrass festivals.

Delbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received many medals. He worked several years for both the Campbell Soup Company and General Motors Corporation of Ohio. He retired from Northeast Area Development where he was the Director for the Weatherization Program. Delbert was a dedicated member of the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138 where he served several terms as Commander. He designed and developed the Carter County War Memorial, located in front of the American Legion post. It was the first of its kind to honor all those lost, from every modern war, in the county. In addition to his commanding duties, he also started the tradition of Santa Clause visiting with the schools. He played Santa for 35 years and loved every minute of it. Delbert was also a member of the Gregoryville VFW and was a long time member of the DAV. He was a member of the Olive Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Crank, and two brothers, Glenn Crank and Marvin Crank.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia "Patty" Duncan Crank; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tammy Moore of Olive Hill and Susan and Mark Dennison of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren who he loved more than life, Adam Moore of Olive Hill, Erin, Erica and Elisa VanMeter of Frankfort and Collin Dennison of Chicago, Ill.; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Joyce Crank of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Joletta and Gale Morgan of Olive Hill; and two very special people who were like his own, Rick Stephens and Christy Stephens Brown, both of Olive Hill. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be at 1p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with his nephew Paul Cline, Brother John Lambert and Brother Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill with full military honors conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.

Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, and until the service hour Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

Adam Moore, Aaron Crank, Jimmy Cline, Paul Cline, Cole Brown, Lance Crank, Danny Sparks, Curtis Crank and Chad Crank will serve as pallbearers.
