05/20/13 — Rhoda Porter Harper, 75, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 15, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 19, 1937, in Elliott County, daughter of the late Roy H. and Carrie Casteel Porter.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy G. Harper.
Rhoda was a member of the Stinson Church of Christ and Eastern Star Chapter No. 10. She worked at the Carter County Nursing Home for over 10 years, was an Avon representative for over 35 years and enjoyed sewing and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rhoda is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Rick) McGlone; three sons, Rob (Jeannie Jo), Dane and Jody Harper, all of Grayson; two sisters, Juanita Kennedy and Rosella Porter, both of Grayson; three brothers, Roy (Rebecca) Porter of Huntsville, Ala., Sammy (Carolyn) and Jerry (Judy) Porter, both of Grayson; four grandchildren, Shanna (Mark) Coleman of Lexington, Chandra Harper, Britany Harper and Madison Harper, all of Grayson; and four great-grandchildren, Deakon Porter of Grayson, Sterling Coleman, Porter Coleman and Harper Coleman, all of Lexington.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Tim Carper, minister. Burial was in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the funeral home.
