10/29/13 — Gary Sparks, also known as "Bicycle Gary", 59, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 26, 2013, at his residence.
He was born March 9, 1954, in Ashland, a son of the late Eddie and Martha Haywood Sparks.
Gary was of the Apostolic faith and attended Mills Branch Apostolic Church and Limestone Apostolic Church during his life. He would witness about the Lord where ever he went. Gary was well known to everyone in the Olive Hill area and mowed lawns for many people in earlier years. He never met a stranger, was always willing to help anyone in any way he could, loved loafing in different businesses and the funeral homes and was often seen on his bicycle in town and around.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Sparks.
Gary is survived by six brothers, Robert E. Sparks of Holiday, Fla., Hiram Sparks of Grayson, James W. Sparks and Eddie Sparks Jr., both of Olive Hill, Roy Kenneth Sparks of Owingsville and Mark Wayne Sparks of Emerson; six sisters, Evalena Hanshaw of Olive Hill, Ida Boyd and Zelma Behnke, both of Morehead, Thelma Offill of Olive Hill, Alice Stewart of Germantown and Jo Ann Mauk of Morehead; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members, church family, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss him.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at the Watson Cemetery in Olive Hill with Brother Nathan Eldridge and Brother Rick Crank officiating.
Family and friends may meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164 for the funeral procession for Mr. Gary Sparks.
William Waddell, Steven Whitt, Nathan Eldridge, Vernon Adkins, Paris Porter, George Caudill, Vent Manning and Terry Thompson will serve as pallbearers.
