9/20/13 — Lorraine Brammell Criswell, 99, of Grayson, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.
She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Grayson, a daughter of the late Ed and Lula (Vincent) Brammell.
She was a retired teacher in the Carter County Schools. She earned her bachelor of science degree from Berea College and her Master’s degree from Morehead State College. She was a founding member of the Carter County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Lindsey-Pactolous Homemakers Club.
Lorraine loved to crochet throws and afghans. She completed 3,274, some of which were used in the ICU Neonatal for preemies in area hospitals and Ashland Police Department cruisers for them to utilize to comfort children in need. She was a member of the Leon Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Criswell; three sisters, Irene Wallace, Cristine Crisp and June Krause; and four brothers, Virgel, Vincent, Fred and Jack Brammell.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Jim) Harris of Grayson; a grandson, Christopher (Debra) Harris of Grayson; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Brant Harris; two sisters-in-law, Grace and Opal Brammell of Grayson; and several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Sparks Funeral Home with Don Frye and Benny Bradshaw officiating. Burial followed at the Grayson Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Kenny Brammell, George Brammell, Freddie Brammell, Tim Brammell, Leonard Brammell, Brad Brammell, Brian Brammell and Kevin Dickerson.
