08/23/2012 — Fred Sammons, 73, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at his residence.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Hitchins, a son of the late Ward and Ottie Humphry Sammons.
Fred was a retired English and German Teacher at East Carter High School and Prichard High School. He was a member of the Stinson Church of Christ, Retired Carter County Teachers Association, a moderator of Carter County Spelling Bee and most recently a night auditor of Guesthouse Suites.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Audie Stewart Sammons; his second wife, Janie Hawes Sammons; four brothers, Marion Chaffins, John Chaffins, Ernest Chaffins and Billy G. Sammons; and a sister, Eunice Chaffins Lyons.
His survivors include four sons, Michael Sammons, Donald (Beth) Sammons, Charles (Michelle) Sammons and John (Amy) Suttles, all of Grayson; one daughter, Lora (Bob Hutchinson) Suttles of Paintsville; one sister, Vada Sammons May of Grayson; ten grandchildren, Jarred Sammons, Taylor Sammons, Tanner Sammons, Noah Sammons, Eli Sammons, Harlan Sammons, Sierra Sammons, George Suttles, Molly Suttles and Willie Suttles; one great-grandchild, Alyssa Suttles; and a host of nephews, nieces and loved ones.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 12, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with John Sergent officiating. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening, October 11, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
