12/02/13 — Berkley "Roy" Porter, 90, of Olive Hill, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Carter County, a son of the late Jasper and Senia Hall Porter.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army and was the owner of Porter Alternator Service. He attended Trough Camp Christian Holiness Church and enjoyed going to church and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Erwin Porter; four brothers, Everett Porter, Boone Porter, Ercel Porter and Farold Porter; and one sister, Francis Keaton.
Roy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Wanda Porter of Converse, Ind.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Ingram of Olive Hill; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother John Lewis and Brother Ed Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, and until the service hour Sunday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
John Erwin, Jeff Erwin, Tony Porter, Chris Erwin, Joe Porter, Mitch Porter and Travis Erwin will serve as pallbearers.
