Mr. Mell Thomas Lankford, age 90, of Olive Hill, passed away Thursday evening, April 12, 2012, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia.
He was born February 26, 1922, in Georgia, a son of the late Robert Chester and Mendie Hayes Lankford.
Mell was a retired foreman from General Refractories where he worked for 47 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Mell was a member of the Olive Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Lankford, Novis Lankford, and Otis Lankford, and one sister, Vesta Murphy.
Mell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Delores Fielding Lankford; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Effie Ford of Ironton, Ohio, Mendie and Robert Butterworth of Clendenin, West Virginia, Melodie and Louie Keaton of Globe, Kentucky, and Patricia Delores and Mark Ludwick of Canfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister Nancy Rodden of San Luis Obispo, California. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Andrew Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park.
Friends may visit after 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
