04/24/2014 — John Harlan Barnhill Sr., 87, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Grayson, a son of the late Dell and Lillie Conley Barnhill.
John was a retired boilermaker with Local No. 667 of Charleston, W.Va., a WWII Army and Korean Conflict veteran and a member of the Willard Church of Christ. He was a farmer and enjoyed watching his purple martins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gladys Barnhill, and a sister, Elva Evans.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Martha (Adams) Barnhill of Grayson; three sons, Keith D. Barnhill of Lexington, Jeffrey D. (Debbie) Barnhill of Grayson and John H. (Brenda) Barnhill Jr. of Grayson; two sisters, Frances Whitlock of Catlettsburg and Paula Midkiff of Rush; sister-in-law, Martha Jane Haney Barnhill of Grayson; five grandchildren, Aaron (Carrie) Barnhill, Marcie (Paul) Morgan, Duane Barnhill, Mavrick Barnhill and Colt Barnhill; the light of his life, his great-grandchildren, Ryder Barnhill, Mallory Morgan and Trevor Morgan; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends,
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Mike Harper and Dave Braun officiating. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, and after 9 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home.
