2/18/14 — Cassie Lene Garvin Smith, 75, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 3, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 1, 1938, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Willie and Lanty Georgia Bond Garvin.
Cassie was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed playing bingo and video games, talking on the phone and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Roy Vernon Smith; seven brothers, Columbus Riggs, Bill Riggs, James Garvin, Earnest Garvin, Paul Garvin, William "Bill" Garvin and Elise "Pete" Garvin; and three sisters, Stella Starler, Amanda Garvin Porter and Georgia Wonten.
Cassie is survived by three sons, Chris Smith of Olive Hill, James Garvin (Bobbie Huddleston) of Valdosta, Ga., and Scott Garvin (Susan Kitchen) of Vanceburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Mamie and Joe Abrams of Olive Hill; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, her twin, Katheryn Maude Crispens of Deland, Fla., and Sarah Kanable of Mansfield, Ohio. She also leaves many other family members who will sadly miss her.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Kingsway Ministries in Olive Hill with Brother Andy Bond officiating. Interment will be in the Garvin Family Cemetery on Upper Trough Camp Road in Olive Hill.
