02/11/14 — Ernestine Binion, 79, of Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Grayson passed on to her heavenly reward on Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Eva Stevens Binion.
Ernestine was stricken with Polio (Infantile Paralysis) as a baby and never had use of her legs or right arm. This did not hinder her cheerful disposition nor keep her from being an inspiration to those around her and her CB buddies.
She was lovingly cared for by her mother while living on Clifty at Pleasant Valley and in Olive Hill. After her mother entered into eternal peace in 1999, she lived at Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and loved the many caregivers and nurses she encountered there.
Ernestine was a longtime member of the Clifty United Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed attending services at the Pleasant Hill Church anytime she was able. She also enjoyed the church services and activities at the nursing home. She brought joy to many church members and nursing home residents when she sang religious hymns. Many people were amazed by the number of songs she could sing without the use of a songbook. Although her voice will no longer be echoing in the hallways at the nursing home, she’ll be singing and rejoicing in Heaven with God’s angels.
Ernestine leaves many fond memories to be cherished by her loving brother, Dallas Binion of Olive Hill, and her sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Ottie Dean of Olive Hill. She also leaves many friends, cousins and other relatives to mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Pastor Gary Sparks and Elder J. D. Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
