04/15/13 — Carl C. Keyes, 86, of Flatwoods, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Hitchins, a son of the late Harry Robert and Lydia Jane Adams Keyes.
He retired from AK Steel after 34 years working in coating
maintenance. He was a WWII Navy veteran where he served on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill aircraft carrier. He was a member of the Westwood Wesleyan Church for 54 years, where he served in various capacities, including Sunday school superintendent and general board. He helped in laying the foundation and many other building projects over the years. He began work driving a coal truck at the age of 13.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Keyes and Robert Keyes, and one sister, Thelma Pennington.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary M. Duncan Keyes; one son, Carl B. Keyes (Debbie) of Ashland; one daughter, Sandra K. Gussler (Lee) of Grayson; one sister, Gladys Murl Jackson of Grayson; two brothers, Tommy Keyes of Grayson and Paul Keyes of Hitchins; four grandchildren, Kim G. Ellison, Jason Keyes, Jon Gussler and Jordan Keyes; and 10 great-grandchildren, Haley, Mason, Riley, Ali, Molly, Zoey, Duncan, Benett, Titus and Jase.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Malone Funeral Home by Delmar Rogers and Willard Metz. Burial will be in the Grayson Memorial Burial Park.
Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
