04/14/14 — James David “J.D.” Riggs, 73, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born March 29, 1941, in Carter County, a son of the late Chester and Mary Sammons Riggs.
J.D. retired from the Commercial Bank of Grayson after 32 years. He was moderator at the Clifty United Baptist Church, Mt. Chapel United Baptist Church and Sand Gap United Baptist Church and moderator of the Iron Hill Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Warren Riggs, Lloyd Riggs, Eugene Sammons and Stirl Sammons, and three sisters, Geneva Walker, Mary Stevens and Lena Riggs.
His survivors include his wife, Joann Gilbert Riggs of Grayson; one daughter, Sherrie Layne of Grayson; two sons, David Aaron (Amy) Riggs of Olive Hill and James Michael (Megan) Riggs of Olive Hill; one sister, Bertella Walker of Greenup; eight granddaughters, Cassie, Katie, Haley, Alyssa, Emma, Laura, Anna and Julie; and one grandson, Owen.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Clifty United Baptist Church with Rob Baier, A.J. Williamson and Lewis Baier officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, April 16, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the Clifty United Baptist Church with brethren and sisters singing at noon.
Pallbearers will be Michael Riggs, Aaron Riggs, Jeremy Justice, Ben Stafford, Bo Mayo, Alvin Wilcox, Camron Parker and Troy Stafford.
