Howard A. Gilbert



05/16/13 — Howard A. Gilbert, 93, of Grayson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Boyd Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born in Carter County to Willis Gilbert and Lillie Stevens on Dec. 15, 1919. He lived most of his life on Rattlesnake Ridge in Olive Hill.

He was retired from the General Refractory Company in Olive Hill. He and his wife Emma spent the majority of their retirement years at the Carter County Flea Market located on Ky. 7.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, in 2005. He was also preceded by one daughter, Anna Gilbert Klein; one son Charlie Gilbert; two grandsons, D.J. Klein and Devin Gilbert; one great-grandson, Lucas Jordan; and one sister, Lucille Penland.

His survivors include Loretta Clevenger of Grayson, Bill (Lida) Gilbert of Olive Hill, Roger (Sue) Gilbert of Lincoln Park, Mich., Kaye (Lee) Walker of Olive Hill, Donna (Charlie) Walker of Raceland, W.C. (Vicki) Gilbert Olive Hill, Jeff (Cheryl) Gilbert of Grayson and David Gilbert of Grayson. He also had 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and three brothers, Bill Maxwell, Gary Gilbert and Billy Don Gilbert.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Elders J.D. Riggs and Donald Pope officiating. Burial will follow at the Clevenger-Gilbert Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and prior to the service Sunday.
