Harry Tillman "Tom" Underwood

11/21/13 — Harry Tillman "Tom" Underwood, 90, passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2013.

Tom was born on March 23, 1923, in Carter, to the late Brady and Grace Underwood.

Tom was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He was awarded the American Theatre Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Victory Medal.

Tom worked for Chrysler Corporation in quality control for 31 years before his retirement. He was a member of the IUE Local Union No. 775.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Thelma, and their son, Steven. Tom was also preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Underwood, Beulah Gearhart and Jessie Stepanik.

Tom is survived by his siblings, Mary (Charles) Becker and John (Helen) Underwood, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Vitas, an innovative hospice care group.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439. The service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Beavertown Cemetery in Kettering, Ohio.
