10/15/13 — Rita Ann Stevens Rodgers, 66, of Orient, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct.12, 2013, in Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Olive Hill, a daughter of Beulah Barker Stevens Binion of Olive Hill and the late Cledith Stevens.
Rita had many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was working with the kids on her bus as an aide with the Southwestern City School District. She was always doing something for someone else and looking for ways to help people. She headed numerous fundraisers to benefit the needy. She loved family, especially her grandchildren, her parrots and fishing. In August 2011, she suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm that led to a stroke. After the doctors gave her nearly zero-percent chance of living, she came to live in Mount Vernon where the whole family took care of her.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Belinda Sue Rodgers.
Besides her mother, Rita is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ted Rodgers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and John Walchle and Lori Montgomery, all of Mount Vernon, Ohio; four grandchildren; two sisters, Wilmeda Rodgers of Olive Hill and Phyllis Downey of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct.17, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Rick Crank officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park.
Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
