04/01/13 — Mr. Dannie Allen Shumate, 69, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday evening, March 30, 2013, at his residence.
He was born July 31, 1943, in Carter County, a son of the late Frank and Faye Knipp Shumate.
Dannie was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was retired from Kentucky Electric Steel after 43 years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was retired from the Olive Hill National Guard having served for more than 20 years. Dannie enjoyed horse riding, hunting, watching UK basketball, going to Walker’s and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lewis Shumate on Nov. 6, 1997, and one son, Nathan Greenhill on Sept. 24, 1993.
Dannie is survived by his wife of 11 years, Brenda Holloway Shumate; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryant and Tammy Shumate of Mt. Sterling; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vanessa Shumate of Indianapolis, Ind., and Miranda and Ryan Tussey of Grayson; and five grandchildren, Bryana Shumate, Matthew Shumate, MaKaylen Kiser, Chaseton Tussey and Treven Tussey. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother James Muncy and Brother Lyle McMicken officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, and until the service hour Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Homer Stamper, Danny Gilliam, Larry Hensley, Chris Perry, Troy Conn, Buddy Baker, Kevin Williams and Larry Stamper will serve as pallbearers.
