03/18/13 — Mr. Lonnie "Junior" Burton Jr., 86, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday afternoon, March 18, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 11, 1927, Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Lonnie Sr. and Sarah Hicks Burton.
Junior was a member of Garvin Ridge Wesleyan Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Carter Caves State Park where he worked as a park ranger for 25 years. Junior loved farming and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Burton, and two sisters, Paulina Edwards and Cora Waggoner.
Junior is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Griffey Burton; two sisters, Kathleen Helm of New York and Elizabeth Risner of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Allen Underwood and Brother J. C. Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Mike Burton, Nicholas Oney, Alex Oney, Wayne Webb, Joe Bauers and Roy Monnett will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.
