8/13/13 — John Willis Cooper, 84, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Olive Hill, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 12, 2013, at Harbor Chase of Aiken surrounded by his family.
He was born May 24, 1929, in New Boston, Ohio, a son of the late Willis and Mary P’Simer Cooper.
John grew up in Olive Hill and was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the World War II era. He was a retired truck driver with Commercial Motor Freight after 18 years of service. He was of the Jehovah’s Witness faith and loved to read the Bible. John was a hard worker and loved gardening year round. He was always proud of his large tomato crops.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Beulah M. Cooper; two sisters, Colleen Cooper Jordan and Joyce Cooper Jordan; one brother, William Paul Cooper; and a great-grandson, Jacob Aaron Cooper.
John is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Cooper Frazier (Max) of Louisa, Mary Cooper Webb of Olive Hill and Madonna Cooper Cook (Bill) of Aiken, S.C.; three sons, John Allen Cooper (Christine) of Willard, Ohio, Stanley Ray Cooper of Mansfield, Ohio, and Arlie Cooper of Mansfield, Ohio; two stepsons, Roger Qualls (Grace) of Mansfield, Ohio, and Ercel E. Littleton (Charlotte) of Newton, N.C.; one sister, Alice Cooper Reeder of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother Joseph Cooper of Mansfield, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug.17, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery on Trough Camp Road in Olive Hill with full military honors conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, and until the service hour Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Kevin Fike, Bill Cook, Joseph Webb, Bennie Webb Jr., Duane Frazier and Derek Frazier will serve as pallbearers.
