7/29/13 — JoAnn Carroll Elliott Thomas, 78, of Olive Hill, entered into rest Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland after a valiant battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Homer Carroll and Ollie Lee Elam. JoAnn was the widow of William Estill Elliott Sr., a former Chief of Police in Grayson, who died in 1965. She retired from James’ Drive Inn and was a Christian woman of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all five of her brothers and sisters, Vernon Wilcox, Lucille Carroll Moore, Beatrice Carroll, Billy Mose Carroll and Wanda Carroll Menix; four stepchildren, William Estill "Bill" Elliott Jr., Mildred Elliott Alexiou Villani, Thomas Elwood Elliott and Julia Chloe "Judy" Elliott Pence; and three step-grandchildren, Thomas Elwood Elliott II, Angie Alexiou and Betty Alexiou.

JoAnn is survived by two daughters, Janet Lee Elliott (Dean) Manning and Jill Estelle Elliott, both of Olive Hill; one stepson, Charles (Christa) Elliott of Carlisle, Penn.; two grandchildren, Tracy Jo Elliott (Mark) Caudill of Grayson and Blake Elliott Oney of Olive Hill; one brother-in-law, Clell Elliott of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Louise Holbrook Carroll; and 12 step-grandchildren, William Jeffrie "Butch" Elliott, Deborah Elaine Elliott Clark, Chester Allen Elliott, Brenda Lee Elliott (Donald) O’Keefe, John Elliott, Jason (Christine) Elliott, Kandi Varney (Ralph) Junkert, Virginia Renee Elliott, Victor Charles (Annette) Elliott, Brenda Sue (Jay) Hallett, Tony Gene Pence and Kelly Jeanette Pence (Terrell) Webb.

She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Kody Dean Hutchinson, Layla Faith Oney, Alexis Jayden Oney and Connor Blake Oney; 21 step-great-grandchildren, April Elaine Payne, Jesse William (Sarah) Elliott, David Allen Elliott, Jordan Alexander Elliott, Jeffrie Allen O’Keefe, Shawn Donald O’Keefe, Ralph Jay Junkert, Lynn Dola Junkert, Dillin Wayne Junkert, Shawn Ray Ford, Krystale Dwan Ford, Thomas Elwood Elliott III, Mandi D’Ann Elliott, Andrew Karl Elliott, Elijah Michael (Thea) Elliott, Elisha Nicole Hallett, Shane Elliott Hallett, Sheldon Ann Pence (Bradley) McKinney, Lauren Julia Webb (Chad) Cooper, Taylor Quenton Webb and Tyson Webb; and four step-great-great-grandchildren, Reid Eustace Payne, Aniston Rae Payne, Keylee Jean O’Keefe and Case Stewart Cooper. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Brother Clell Elliott and Brother Terrell Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Grayson Memorial Park.

Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, and until the service hour at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home, 145 Gearhart Street, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

Blake Elliott Oney, Kody Dean Hutchinson, Tony Gene Pence, Jason Elliott, Fermon Shepherd Sr., Rock Kiser and Troy Roark will seve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Roark, Tom Mattingly and Fermon Shepherd Jr.
