July 7, 2014 — Jay Messer, 82, of Olive Hill, passed away Wednesday morning July 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was born June 14, 1932 in Olive Hill, a son of the late Edward and Ethel Tabor Messer. Jay worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for many years, retired from the Carter County Board of Education after 12 years of service as a bus driver, and was of the Christian Faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Wilson; four brothers, Wayne Messer, Shirley Messer, Gene Messer, Phirl Messer; and a half sister Lanora Murphy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Louella E. Messer of Olive Hill; one son Homer (Michelle) Messer of Mansfield, OH; two daughters Carolyn Messer (Randy Arrington) of Olive Hill, and Marcia Messer of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Evelyn Kinzer of Norfolk, VA; one brother, Laverne Messer of Olive Hill; two half brothers, Keith Messer and Curtis Messer; six grandchildren, Chris Messer, Jared Orcutt, Jennifer Richardson, Amber Orcutt, Kayla Roe, Jessica Rayburn; seven great grand children, Corey Messer, Kelsey Messer, Logan Richardson, Bayleigh Richardson, Trever Boyle, Thomas Rayburn, and Johnathon Rayburn. In addition to these he is survived by a host of relatives and friends who sadly morn his passing.
Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, with Bro. Junior Logan and Bro Scott Cully officiating. Burial will follow in the Messer Family Cemetery in Olive Hill. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Messer, Jared Orcutt, Corey Messer, Trevor Boyle, Pete King, Doug Erwin and Lowell Burton.
