June 24, 2014 — Mr. Willie Gene James, age 79, of Grahn, went home to be with Jesus and his beloved wife Martine on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014, at his residence with his children and grandchildren at his side.
He was born May 11, 1935, in Grahn, a son of the late James and Stella Everman James.
Willie was a Christian, proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, and worked as a licensed blaster. He was a great friend to many and had a special love for children. He was very witty with a great sense of humor and entertained all he came in contact with. Willie loved fishing and hunting with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martine Sturgill James; ten brothers, Dennis, Johnny Bruis, Clifford, James Jr., Charlie, Watt Dean, Gilbert, Buford, Chester, and Glen James ; and five sisters, Opal Lowe, Lillian Rice, Nixola Gilliam, Geneva Waugh, and Thelma Jessie.
Willie is survived by two children, Andrea Beth Lewis and husband, Bill, of Grayson, and Jason Willie James of Grahn; four grandchildren, Andy Lewis, Brittany Gene Bond and husband Adam, Hana James, and Caleb Grant Willie James; one great grandchild, Poppy Lou Bond; one brother and sister-in-law, Phyllis and Evelyn James of Olive Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie Sue and Donnie Justice of Pikeville; and many, many, loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and special life-long friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Tom Harris and Brother Ed Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Biggs Hill Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, and until the service hour on Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
