8/14/13 — Howard Eugene Newell, 81, of Olive Hill, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 13, 2013, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Wheelwright, a son of the late James and Ida Davis Newell.
Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked as a heavy equipment operator and self-employed truck driver. He delivered papers for The Independent with his wife for many years. Howard enjoyed spending time with his dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Dessie Tackett Fraley Newell; one daughter, Carolyn Newell Kiser; one stepson, Thomas Fraley Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Sammons; one brother, James Newell; and one sister, Elizabeth Kinker.
Howard is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Eugene Newell of Olive Hill and James Edward and Dorothy Newell of Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Lynn Newell of Flemingsburg and Cindygene Newell Henderson and Earl T. of Olive Hill; one daughter-in-law, Sue Fraley Bryant of Summersville, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one sister, Midge Newell Webb of Olive Hill. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Tim Garvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Carroll Cemetery in Grahn with full military rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, and until the service hour Friday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
