01/23/13 — Joanne Maggard Cox, 60, of Pleasant Valley, surrounded by family and friends, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, after a prolonged illness in St. Clair Medical Center.
She was born July 17, 1952, the daughter of the late Walter and Mattie Maggard of Grayson.
She was of the Christian faith, a graduate of Prichard High School in Grayson and worked briefly as a dispatcher for Carter County emergency services.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing in 1982 from Morehead State University and then worked as a registered nurse for 12 years at King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland. She later worked as a part-time nursing instructor at various local colleges and technical schools. She enjoyed cross-stitching, gardening, playing guitar, antiques, pets and being with family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Donald G. Cox of Olive Hill; two sons and their wives, John Jobe and Merunissa Cox of Nicholasville and Roy Matthew and Phyllis Cox of Ashland; four grandchildren, Terra, Montana, Josey and Jonathan; two children she loved as her own, Tallisa and Mike Hall; two brothers, Jack and Leo Maggard of Grayson; her beloved dog, Buddy; and cats, Butch and Pinkie.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Homer and Bobby Maggard; and twins, Harold and Carol Maggard.
She also leaves many family and friends who will mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Lewis Davis, minister. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday after 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences can be made to the family at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
