7/14/13 — George Sparks Jr., 90, of Webbville, went to be with his Lord on Friday, July 12, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family.
George was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Dobins, son of the late George W. and Martha Jane Stevens Sparks.
George was a retired Boilermaker out of Local No. 105 in Piketon, Ohio. He also worked for General Refractories Brickyard in Hitchins and was a rural mail carrier in Webbville.
He was a Navy veteran having served during WW II and received the Astatic Pacific and American Area Victory and Philippine Liberation metals. George was a member of the Cherokee Freewill Baptist church, a past Lawrence County District 1 Magistrate, a member of the Willard Lodge No. 626 and a Kentucky Colonel.
George is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lorraine Marshall Sparks; four sons, the Rev. Gary (Phyllis) Sparks of Olive Hill, Keith (Angie) Sparks of Grayson, Mike (Linda) Sparks of Willard and Steve (Cindy) Sparks of Webbville; six daughters, Beth Paulino of California, Gail (David) Boggs of Webbville, Eileen (Mike) Roberts and Elaine (Eddie) Wiler, both of Grayson, Linda (Ronald) Adams of Webbville and Rita (Terry) Sexton of Grayson; a sister, Mae Pennington of Willard; a brother, Bert (Jean) Sparks of Ashland; 28 grandchildren; and 54 great grandchildren.
Including his parents, George was preceded in Heaven by four brothers, Lonnie, Rich, Bill and Virgil Sparks; three sisters, Lizzie Porter, Martha Savage and Melissa Wells; a son-in-law, Bennerdo “Bee” Paulino; a great granddaughter, Mychelle Paulino; and a great-great grandson Prince Riel.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with David Boggs, Ronnie Adams, Terry Sexton and Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the George Sparks Cemetery in Webbville with military honors.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 14, and after 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday.
