Dottie L. Gilliam Collier


04/22/2014 — Dottie L. Gilliam Collier, 71, of Olive Hill, went home to be with her heavenly Father Monday afternoon, April 21, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Clayton and Violet Owens Gilliam. She was raised by a special aunt and uncle, the late Cecil Wylie and Carrie Owens Griffey.

Dottie was of the Christian faith and retired from Marathon Oil Petroleum. Her years as a cook on the Valvoline, Paul Blazer and Ashland barges with Marathon were special to her. She loved her crew and thought of them as her boys she never had. Dottie was a strong, independent woman who always put others first. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and loved her family and living life to the fullest. Dottie enjoyed cooking, canning, fishing, dancing, music, watching television, shopping with her girls and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Arthur and Ada B. Qualls Gilliam; maternal grandparents, Charles and Daisy Kiser Owens; one granddaughter, Haley MarieWilson; one brother, Delbert Larry Gilliam; and two sisters, Sharon Watts and Shirley Howard.

Dottie is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Landon Roark of Olive Hill, Rhonda Collier White and companion Terry Johnson of Quincy and Paula and Tony Wilson of Olive Hill; seven grandchildren, Aaron (Brittney) White, Jennifer Campbell, Stephanie (Zach) Glancy, Kassie (Adam) Branham, Chelsea Collier, Monica Collier and Courtney Reynolds; seven great-grandchildren, Zaden and Zandra Messer, Zane and Sullivan Glancy, Alexis and Kaydance Branham and Cailee Chyle Curtis; two brothers, Carl Gilliam of Mansfield, Ohio, and Fredrick Harold Gilliam of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruthie and Stanley Dickerson of Grayson, Betty and Richard Boggs of Grayson, Joyce Maggard of Olive Hill, Faye Williams of Mansfield, Ohio, and Brenda Griffey Jensen of Morehead. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Park.

Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
