June 11, 2014 — Mr. Howard Eugene "Gene" Buckler, age 81, of Olive Hill, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014, at his residence.
He was born October 26, 1932, in Carter County, a son of the late John and Fannie Stevens Buckler.
Gene was a member of James Chapel Community Holiness Church where he served as pastor for 32 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Kentucky Electric Steel. Gene enjoyed serving God, spending time with his family, and farming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jezreel Rayburn; one brother, John Buckler Jr.; and four sisters, Lucille Sampson, Bertha Cordle, Pauline Conn, and Rosa "Maggie" Albert.
Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenna Reynolds Buckler; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Donna Buckler of Olive Hill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Brent Rayburn of Olive Hill, Linda and Ricky Clary of Olive Hill, and Debra and Dale Enix of Vanceburg; eight grandchildren, Adam (Stacey) Buckler, Lea (Lloyd) Arrowood, Tony (Michelle) Buckler, Jason (Natasha) Rayburn, Jerome (Danielle) Rayburn, Shawna (Joshua) Caudill, Matthew (Amber) Enix, and Jesse Enix; 11 great grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah and Andrew Buckler, Milea and Canaan Arrowood, Taylor Hicks and Madison Buckler, Jasmyn Rayburn and Kaitlyn and Rylee Sapp, Jocelyn and Luke Rayburn, Kian Blu Caudill, and Parker Enix; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Shirley Buckler of Olive Hill; and two sisters, Opal Arthurs of Olive Hill, and Phyllis Taylor of Olive Hill. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at James Chapel Community Holiness Church in Olive Hill, with Brother Matt Blankenship and Brother Adam Buckler officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett-Buckler Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164, and after 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the church.
Tony Buckler, Jason Rayburn, Jerome Rayburn, Joshua Caudill, Matthew Enix, and Jesse Enix will serve as pallbearers.
