Eugene "Gene" Moreland

04/06/13 — Mr. Eugene "Gene" Moreland, 86, of Winchester, formerly of Olive Hill, passed away Friday morning, April 5, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Carter County, a son of the late Deward "Tucker" and Ora Ann Canifax Moreland.

Gene attended the Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church when he lived in Olive Hill. He worked as a police officer in Olive Hill and a security officer at Carter Caves State Park and Morehead State University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Velma "Bernice" Roe Moreland; five brothers, Estill Moreland, Deward Moreland Jr., Jeff Wiley Moreland, George Moreland and an infant brother; and two sisters, Anna Mae Waggoner and Faye Furnish.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Donna Messer and companion Michael Goldy of Winchester; one granddaughter, Katherine Jean Duncan-Simon and her husband Eric of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Dale Richmond officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Easterling Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
