04-19-12 — Mr. Willis Ray "Wid" Barker, 67, of Grahn, passed away Friday morning, December 7, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born December 23, 1944, in Carter County, a son of the late James and Effie Holbrook Barker.
Wid was of the Baptist faith and was retired from the Grahn plant of Louisville Firebrick where he worked as a kiln fireman for 36 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Ray Barker; four brothers, Ralph Barker, June Barker, Jerry Barker and Roy Holbrook; and two sisters, Gracie Holbrook and Bertha Maddix.
Wid is survived by his wife of 49 years, Velma Holbrook Barker; one son, James Michael Barker and his companion Ashley Flaugher of Olive Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Keith Offill of Olive Hill; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bonnie and Cleo Middleton of Olive Hill and Sue Cains of Morehead.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Jimmy Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Barker Cemetery in Grahn.
Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012, and until the service Monday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
