Steven Michael McDavid

The Morehead News

02/03/14 — Steven Michael McDavid, 63, of Grayson, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born Feb. 20, 1950, in East Chicago, Ind., a son of B.J. McDavid and the late Jess W. McDavid.

He was a retired principal of Heritage Elementary, National Principal of the Year and started the Principal Award of Carter County. He also served as principal of both Hitchins and Star Elementary, was a former teacher at Prichard Elementary and was most currently working for Med-Care Pharmacy.

If you worked in one of Steve’s schools, you became part of a family he helped to create. If you studied in one of his schools, you had someone who would always be there to champion you. If you had the fortune to be Steve’s friend or family, then you knew what it was to have unwavering, quiet goodness in your life. Ironically, this kind, gentle man shied away from all accolades. Instead, Steve gave of the good within himself because that was simply what he had to give. Everyone in his path was better for that. Steve was one of the good ones.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Bonnie Tolliver McDavid; one son, Will and wife Julie McDavid of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Ashley and husband Stu Brown of Milford, Ohio; one sister, Rita and husband Don Malone of Grayson; one step-son, Matt and wife Amanda Jones of Olive Hill; his step-mother, Phyllis McDavid of Rush; four grandchildren, Breck Brown, Gabe McDavid, Zara Brown and Jake McDavid; one special niece, Hannah Williams; and a special buddy, King McDavid.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Grayson with Paul Schmidt and Joed Rice, ministers. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Grayson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Malone Funeral Home.

Family suggests that donations be made to the Heritage Family Resource Center, c/o Missie Lowe, 4863 South State Highway 1, Grayson, KY 41143, in his memory. The children of Heritage Elementary were always his concern.
